Fun times!!! Critter keepers at Marian Wright Edelman-Library
We spent July celebrating birthdays, playing and working to stay cool. Tiffany Lewellen, her husband Richie and son Eli welcomed a new baby brother, Liam, into their family. When Tiffany returns to work, Liam will be coming too! Congratulations to the Lewellen family.
Earlier this month, students in the 4K class were able to take a trip to the Discovery Place in Rockingham. They were able to play on a fire truck, fix a race car, play in a tree house and do lots of fun and educational activities. We have included several pictures of our children enjoying this trip.
Our 4K class will leave on July 31st ready to begin kindergarten. Our new class will begin on August 19th. Linda Cardenas will continue to teach the 4 year olds. We are excited that Shonna Heffner and Sandy Odom will be working as assistants in this class. Shonna has been working with our center for 6 years. Sandy recently retired after 30 years of teaching with the Marlboro County School District. We are so excited to have this team working with our PreK and look forward to a great year!

4K BUSY BEES
What a fun morning! The 4K Busy Bees walked to the Marlboro Historical Museum. We heard a story on the porch, tasted fresh vegetables and planted seed in their vegetable garden. We were able to go on the storybook walk and look at the story Miss Jennie read to us on the porch. We each were given a book to have for our very own. One day soon, we will return to check on the garden and see the plants that have grown. Many thanks to Lynn McQueen, Mrs. Ingles, Jennie Weatherly and Nicole Hendrix!
We enjoyed walking to the Council on Aging. We sang songs, and received Easter eggs to take home.
The rain may have stopped us from going to the Easter egg hunt, but it didn’t stop the Easter Bunny from coming to visit us!! Thanks to Ms. Nicole and our friends at the Marian Wright Edelman-Library❤️
Dr. Beaty did magic tricks and talked about keeping our teeth healthy!

Theme for 3k: The Artic. This week we are learning about all the animals that live in The Arctic. Today we talked about Polar bears and their special white fur that keeps them warm.
It’s cold and flu season. Please make sure to wash hands often to stay healthy!
Children must be brought into the Center by 9:30 each morning in order to stay for the day. If there is a doctor’s appointment, the child must come in by 11:30.
Make sure that your child has a clean change of clothes in his/her cubby.
Thursday, January 10th — Creative Preschool with Mrs. Teresa
Friday, January 11th — Pictures and/or picture money due
Monday, January 21st — 4K class is closed for MLK Holiday
Thursday, January 24th — Hearing Screenings
Audiologists from Beginnings SC will come to our Center and offer free hearing screenings to each of our children. They utilize an Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) machine to screen each child. This process takes approximately 3 minutes per child and gives simply a “pass” or “refer” response based on the brain’s responses from the sounds emitted by the machine.
The hearing screener(s) go into the classrooms and screen each child in the setting they are used to and are most comfortable with. They try to screen those between the ages of 18-36 months while they are awake and playing, but often they are the hardest to screen. If they are fearful, we will attempt during their lunch or even nap – children typically sleep right through the entire process! The screening is quick and easy and most children even enjoy it!
Please return your permission forms indicating if your child can or cannot participate.
Beginning Thursday, January 10th, our toddlers through four year olds will have a chapel and Bible storytime on Thursday mornings.
We are excited for the new year and experiences to come in 2019! In reflection, the month of December was a very busy and rewarding time. Every day was filled with fun, friends, and play. We enjoyed playing with bubbles, boxes, toys, and each other.
The children enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Teresa Davis. The Creative Preschool Program had everyone singing and enjoying the Christmas Story. The children were encouraged to look for Jesus, and found that he is in each of our hearts.
The Children’s Center was able to have a float in the Bennettsville Christmas Parade. Ten children and ten adults road our train through the streets of Bennettsville. We were excited to win “Best in Show” for our float. Many thanks to everyone that made it possible for us to participate.
Many thanks to each of you for your support of our Chicken Bog Fundraiser. This was a success, and proceeds will be used to buy needed items and equipment for our classrooms.
The three and four year old classes provided a wonderful Christmas program. They sang songs of the season for their family members and friends. Our children are truly a blessing to us all.
Week of December 10, 2018—We have a busy week …. Chicken Bog Plate Sale and our Christmas play, not to mention our dress rehearsals!

December 6, 2018
Miss Teresa came and did her Creative Preschool program with us this afternoon. The theme was Christmas. We looked for Baby Jesus. DJ was able to hold and place the baby in the manger. We also learned that Jesus is in our heart. Here are pictures of our program. Please ask your child about the songs, story and all that they learned.
News and Announcements
November 1, 2018
We will be open on November 6th (Election Day). Our center will be closed for Thanksgiving Holidays on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23.
4K Parents – Linda and Tara have to attend training on Friday, Nov. 9th. The 4K students will not attend that day. We will not be able to provide daycare for 4 year olds on that day.
FUNDRAISER COMMITTEE – Our classrooms need updated supplies and equipment. In order to fund these needs, a Chicken Bog plate sale is being organized for December. We will be relying on our parents to help sell tickets for this event, as well as, assist in preparation and serving on the day of the sale. There are church and staff members that have agreed to help also. A meeting to plan this event will be held next Tuesday, Nov. 6th and 4:30 pm in the conference room. Please let us know if you will be able to assist.
Classroom Needs – We have a list of needs for each class. This list has been prioritized. Proceeds from the Chicken Bog plate sale will be used to purchase items beginning with the first on the list until money is spent. We will plan to have another plate sale next spring to continue purchasing from our list. Many thanks to each of you for your assistance with our fundraising efforts.
CHRISTMAS PARADE – A special person has made arrangements for our Children’s Center to have a float in the Bennettsville Christmas Parade on Tuesday, Dec. 4th. We have room for 8 to ride the float. This includes 2 adults. We will have a drawing of three and four year old students to select who will be able to ride. This was the only fair way we could figure out how to select. If you would like for your child to ride on our float, please complete our permission form to enter your child’s name in our drawing. Names will be drawn Wednesday, Nov. 7th.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM – The 3 and 4 year olds will be presenting their annual Christmas Program on Wednesday, December 12th at 6pm in the Family Center. All friends and family are invited to attend. We will send more information about this in the near future.
Everyday in our Children’s Center is filled with lots of activities. The younger kids are also busy daily with preschool activities and play. The Pre-K class has enjoyed their visit to McArthur’s Farm. Sixteen of our children, parents and teachers enjoyed a day of playing in corn, sliding, jumping and picking out pumpkins. They really enjoyed the hayride.
We have been blessed with many children to care for. The infant/ toddler room is filled to capacity with a waiting list. Our two and three year old rooms are also filled. Please make sure to tell anyone that might need childcare to call immediately to be placed on our waiting list.
The staff and families of our children have so many reasons to be thankful. As we begin the month of November, we are spending time reflecting on our many blessings. We are all very thankful for:
- happy and healthy children;
- caring and loving teachers and caregivers;
- a safe and comfortable place to spend each day;
- time to play, learn and have fun together;
- the perfect weather that fall brings, enabling us all to enjoy playing outside;
- the families that entrust their children to our care each day;
- the members of this church family that bring donations, offer support, and provide a friendly atmosphere in which to work and play;
- and, most importantly, the love of God and the many blessings that he has showered on us all.
Blessings to you all,
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20
