February 18, 1933 ~ August 27, 2022 (age 89
On Saturday, August 27, 2022, Rose Hartley Patterson, loving mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away at age eighty-nine at Presbyterian Home in Florence, SC. An avid crime show fan, Rose graduated from Latta High School and completed nursing training at Hamlet School of Nursing. She committed forty-three years to caring for others as a registered nurse while working at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC, then at Marlboro General Hospital in Bennettsville as head nurse on the 3rd floor annex. She served at Marlboro Park Hospital, and later she worked at Dundee Nursing Home until she retired. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bennettsville, an assistant Girl Scout leader, participated in fostering rescues, and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Edward Coker Patterson of Bennettsville. Rose, an extremely devoted and caring mother, was widowed at the age of 35 with two young daughters, aged 2 and 4. She dedicated her life to caring for and raising them. She is survived by those two daughters, Ida P. McAllister of Charlotte, NC, and Ann P. Stubbs and son-in-law William Mark Stubbs of Hartsville, SC. She is the proud grandmother, “Nana”, of three grandchildren, Regan Elizabeth Stubbs (28) of Columbia, SC, Matthew Abram McAllister (24) of Charlotte, NC and William Paul Stubbs (22) of Boston, MA. She is also survived by her nephew Matthew Hartley of Oak Grove, SC, his sons and grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Alpha Hartley of Dillon, SC.
Honored Pallbearers are William Mark Stubbs, William Paul Stubbs, Matthew Hartley, Sully Blair, John Williams, and Mark Shepard.
The family will receive visitors from 2 pm-3pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 688 Beauty Spot Rd, in Bennettsville, SC 29512. A memorial service will follow immediately after at 3 p.m. at the funeral home followed by interment at Bethesda Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Oak Grove, SC.
