Pictures of the Cross in the Old Testament

Dr. Raeburn Johnston
Vincente Manansala (January 22, 1910 – August 22, 1981)

“The Crucifixion”, painted in Manansala’s indigenized interpretation of cubism, captures the sorrowful moment of Mary at the foot of Christ’s cross, her bowed head both hints regret and acceptance of her son’s date with death.  The dominant use of white robe strikes a dramatic contrast between Christ’s agony and suffering at the black cross, suggesting the deep maternal bond between mother and son.  Triangles and domes, also in white overlap in the gray-blue background.

Scripture Memory Verse

For we did not follow cunningly devised tables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.  For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory:  “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. (2 Peter 1:16-18 NKJ)
